Four times a year is all it takes to keep a home feeling brand new. Here's the seasonal deep clean checklist our team runs through, room by room.
Weekly upkeep keeps your home livable, but the deep-down freshness — that "just moved in" feeling — only comes from a seasonal deep clean. Four times a year is the sweet spot: often enough to stay ahead of buildup, infrequent enough that it actually makes a difference. Here's the room-by-room checklist our team runs every season.
Before You Begin
Gather your supplies, open the windows for ventilation, and work one room at a time, top to bottom, so dust falls onto surfaces you haven't cleaned yet. Set a playlist, hydrate, and don't rush — a proper seasonal clean is a four-to-six hour project, or a single afternoon when you hand it to pros.
Kitchen
- Empty and wipe down the inside of the refrigerator; toss anything expired.
- Descale the faucet and spray head.
- Pull appliances away from the wall and clean behind and beneath them.
- Degrease the range hood and filter.
- Hand wipe cabinet doors and drawer fronts.
- Run a dishwasher cleaner cycle on empty.
- Deep clean the oven interior.
Bathrooms
- Descale showerheads by soaking in a bag of vinegar overnight.
- Scrub grout lines and re-seal if needed.
- Clean the plastic strip at the bottom of glass shower doors.
- Wash shower curtains and liners.
- Descale faucets and shine fixtures.
- Wash the exterior of the trash can.
- Scrub the toilet base, hinges, and behind the seat.
Living Areas
- Vacuum under furniture and between cushions.
- Hand wipe ceiling fans and light globes.
- Dust crown molding, wall corners, and baseboards.
- Clean interior windows, sills, and blinds.
- Dust electronics and disinfect remotes.
- Remove scuff marks from doors and moldings.
Bedrooms
- Vacuum under the bed.
- Rotate and vacuum the mattress.
- Wash all bedding, including duvet covers and pillow inserts.
- Dust behind the headboard and under nightstands.
- Clean mirrors and interior windows.
- Refresh the closet — donate what you no longer wear.
Whole-Home Finishing Moves
- Change HVAC filters (every season is ideal in coastal air).
- Dust intake and return air vents.
- Wipe down all doors, door knobs, and switch plates.
- Vacuum and mop all hard floors; deep-clean or shampoo carpets.
- Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
Make It a Habit, Not a Headache
The reason seasonal deep cleans get skipped is that they feel overwhelming. Break it into the rooms above, schedule the same weekend each season, and keep a running list of anything that needs a repair. Or — our favorite option — schedule a professional deep clean four times a year and spend your weekend actually enjoying the home you live in.
